Meet Mahru:
The Dancing Robo!
-By Nikita Kaushal
How would like to live in a Jetsons world with a Robot doing all your housework for you? Sounds like a futuristic world, doesn’t it? Now what if this Robot could also dance!
Mahru, is one such Robot that was developed by a research team at the state funded Korea Institute of Science and Technology. He can move his lips, his eyebrows and even his pupils to make faces. He can move his upper body while walking on his legs and what’s more, he can also emit two different fragrances to match his emotions!
This kind of advancement in Robot technology is an attempt to make a humanoid robot capable of doing work instead of a human being. In this case it is the development of a humanoid that could open the way for their commercial use to do housework. In other countries such as in America, nearly $43.7 Billion has been spent to create robots that could be used as military and emergency personnel.
The Robotics industry is a fast developing one in most countries, including India. The interest in Robotics is in the designing as well as scientists capable of creating them. Such Robots are usually showcased the world over in Robot festivals such as Robot World in Seoul. It’s not only the government departments and highly funded organizations who take part but even budding developers from engineering colleges are given a chance to showcase their talent.
